A Thank You Note for the Ranch from "Party Foul"

Like most Pacific Crest Trail through hikers (the folks that start at the Mexican border with the goal of reaching the Canadian border a few months later) Jon Sestak has a trail name. These colorful names are usually given by fellow hikers early in their journey based on personality, hiking speed (or lack of) and any number of other factors. Jon's is "Party Foul" and he and all the other hikers use their trail names to sign hiking logs, post comments on PCT internet forums and blogs. Jon passed through the Ranch in the spring of 2009 and reached his goal at the Canadian border on September 28, 2009.  "Party Foul" is probably now back to answering to "Jon" and getting on with his non-PCT through hiker life ... but he didn't forget about the Ranch or the other folks that helped him on his way. We got this postcard from him last week and thought his comments were worth sharing.

"Thank you for letting us dirty, smelly, hikers into your fabulous resort. I needed it so badly. I spent way too much money there I can't wait to go back. We couldn't do it without kind people like you. -- Party Foul"

Your thanks are graciously accepted Party Foul and you and the rest of the PCT through hiking community are welcome back at the Ranch anytime. We love having you folks around the Ranch ... especially after you've had a nice hot shower.

Charger Playoff Game at the Ranch ... on the Big Screen and in High Definition!

Darren Sprouls of the Chargers

On Sunday the 17th of January (the Martin Luther King three-day holiday weekend) the Ranch will screen the 1:40PM San Diego Chargers AFC playoff game in the Palomar Room on the 6 foot by 8 foot projection screen ... and in High Definition!

Enjoy a full selection of beers, Anita Gossack's award winning "Hunting Camp" Elk Chili, hot dogs, burgers and lots more. The comfy couches in the Palomar room will be facing the big screen and a roaring fire will keep the room toasty warm. And if things go well on the 17th for the Chargers ... make plans to be back next weekend when we do the whole thing all over again when the chargers play for the AFC Championship and with a little luck ...  February 7th at the big dance!

Christmas at the Ranch 2009

The Ranch will be hosting two Christmas Eve services on Thusday the 24th of December. Both will be in the Ortega Room, one at 5PM and another at 8PM. Reverend Betsy Stilwell will conduct the non-denominational services and the offering that evening will be donated to the Warner Resource Center. The Warner Resource Center helps families in the greater Warner Springs area with training and support not only in the Christmas Season, but throughout the year.

Seasons Greetings from the staff and managment of Warner Springs Ranch!

A Cool New Activity at the Ranch?

TJ Aguirre from Zero Motorcycles brought a team van full of bikes out to the Ranch to do a demo of their amazing electric powered motorcycles. Green? Yes. Quiet? Yes. Fun? Yes. Neck snapping acceleration? Oh yeah! Pictured below is Ranch Director of Safety and Security Dennis Parry checking out one of these amazing bikes. Nothing certain yet but we are looking into ways to make these fun, clean and quiet bikes part of the array of outdoor recreation options here at the Ranch sometime in the near future. Stay tuned!

Pond Clearing Going On Now ... Fun Fishing Hole at the Ranch Soon!

Work has begun on weed clearing to provide better habitat for fish in the pond near the Ranch Long Drive Range. Here are Jeremy and Jim up to their @#$%$ in Tule clearing work! Bass and Bluegill were planted there a couple years back and rumor has it that the fishing will be pretty good when this work is complete. Catch and release only please unless you think you may have a world record fish!
