He will then move on to some of the brighter clusters in the immediate Scorpio and Saggitarius region.
Ending the evening viewing will be a move into the M13 cluster and some of the pretty double stars that will be directly overhead near the summer triangle.
All ages are welcome. Come when you can and leave when you need to...
MARS LANDING - LIVE! Join JPL’s Larry Simmons for this once-in-a-lifetime event to watch the MARS LANDING live at Warner Springs Ranch via live satellite feed from NASA. Listen to NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander as it enters the Martian atmosphere May 25th in the Event Tent. Three Mars spacecraft are adjusting their orbits to be over the right place at the right time.
Every landing on Mars is difficult. Having three orbiters track Phoenix as it streaks through Mars' atmosphere will set a new standard for coverage of critical events during a robotic landing. The data stream from Phoenix will be relayed to Earth throughout the spacecraft's entry, descent and landing events. If all goes well, the flow of information will continue for one minute after touchdown.
“Build Warner Springs Ranch on Mars” contest for families begins at 12:00 p.m. Bring your rocks and Legos, etc, Tables will be provided for the activity and there will be prizes for participants! Room reservations 760-782-4200
Special events services and information 760-782-4244
The Phoenix mission is led by Peter Smith at the University of Arizona, Tucson, with project management at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., and development partnership at Lockheed Martin, Denver. International contributions are provided by the Canadian Space Agency; the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland; the universities of Copenhagen and Aarhus, Denmark; Max Planck Institute, Germany; and the Finnish Meteorological Institute. Further information about Phoenix is online at http://www.nasa.gov/phoenix and http://phoenix.lpl.arizona.edu .
Night Sky at the Chili Cook Off Ice Cream Comets will be served up for a $1.00 donation at this event in order to keep this program alive here at Warner Springs Ranch. The Night Sky program has brought to the Ranch several fascinating programs. Last year Char Fliege brought to the Chili Cook off a model of the Mars Rover for all to experience.
Julian Starfest The inaugural Julian Starfest will be a weekend long (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) festival of all things night sky with activities that include; tour of the Palomar Observatory, swap meet, night sky vendors and speakers on a variety of night astronomy related subjects.
